Welcome Western KS Rural Economic Development Alliance!

KREDA conference at the Elks Lodge in Russell!

I am out at the Elks Lodge in Russell today.  Our office is excited to be the host of the annual meeting for WKREDA (Western Kansas Rural Economic Development Alliance) today and tomorrow!  There are lots of Economic Development Directors and State Resource partners staying over night in Russell tonight! 

This annual meeting provides the opportunity for rural economic issues to be discussed and for resource partners such as Ks. Dept. of Commerce to provide updates on programs to economic development directors.

Everyone is having a good time and getting into the Christmas cheer.  Everyone was asked to wear something festive for both days of the conference.  I myself got a pair of snazzy Santa socks!  We are having a good old-time out at the Elks Lodge!

The North Central KS Travel Council Group!

Collection of Military Patches

Today I got to meet all of the wonderful people of the North Central Kansas Travel Council. Russell County is a member of this group and today they met in Osborne! We started off the day by visiting many unique businesses and had a wonderful meeting!  I stopped at the Carnegie Research Library to find a UNIQUE collection of military patches!  A local gentleman, Woody Hilsinger, collected these badges and they are now displayed in the Carnegie Research Library.   They have a sign in sheet for Veterans to sign if they have ever worn the badge.  It is a great tribute to our Veterans!  They are still trying to find the history and information on some badges displayed, so if you know someone who has worn any of these badges have them stop by and sign their name next to the badge!

Northwest Travel Council Meeting

Russell hosted the Northwest Kansas Travel Council meeting today at Lasada and I was there!  It was a great meeting.  They just completed the NEW Ultimate Guide.  It is an attractive marketing tool for NW Kansas  and you can check it out on their website!

Scott & Roxanne Young, owners of Lasada, made an EXCELLENT meal for us and Scott spoke about all the great things they provide at Lasada!  Jim Millensifer was also there to inform us on the latest details with the KS Governor’s Ringneck Classic in Oakley. It will be held on November 18-20. Linda Brant brought DELICIOUS meats from Brant’s Meat Market!  They are located in Lucas, KS and have been in business for 89 years. Afterwards, everyone visited Diamond S Vineyard & Winery.   It was a day full of RUSSELL COUNTY FUN!

Economic Development Board Meeting

I attended my first Economic Development Board meeting today.  It was a beautiful morning in Dorrance!  For those of you who do not know, the Economic Development Board meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7:30 am.  The meetings are open to the public and the board meets at a different town every month in hopes that community members will attend to give an update on what is going on in each community.  If you are interested in attending an Economic Development Board meeting  please call our office at 785-483-4000.  The next meeting will be held on November 10 at Meridy’s in Russell.
