I am pleased to say that National Travel & Tourism Week has officially begun, it started on May 4th and continues until May 12th!! I would like to invite you all to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week with the Russell County Eco Devo & CVB Staff and I at our What’s Up Coffee on Tuesday, May 7th at the Dream Theater at 8:15 am!! We will have coffee provided by Espresso Etc and homemade cinnamon rolls provided by KP Meal Service!!! I hope to see you all out there!!!

So the ground hog was apparently wrong about the timing of Spring this year!!! But I think that we are finally going to get some great weather!!
If you haven’t already, mark you calendar for the first weekend in May (4th-5th) for the Kansas Fat Tire Festival, featuring the Swithgrass Trail (rated an Epic Trail!!) for two days of riding and racing!! The event is for all levels of riders from novice to pro. There will be fantastic prizes of cash or merchandise for the in all classes!!
Spectators are welcome! There are many great places to watch great mountain biking feats of skills and endurance!!
So if you have a mountain bike and this is something that you would like to do, please contact Golden Belt Bicycle at 620-793-7060 for more information and to register!! Freedom Fest is taking place on July 4th-6th, there are lots of great activities planned for those days, and we can’t forget about the great concerts that will be happening. The appearances will be from Wes Cossman Band, Logan Mize, and the well-known Gloriana!!! Don’t forget to check out the Freedom Fest / Dirty Dynamite Dash Facebook page for updated information!!! If you would like to volunteer to help with any of the events on those days there will be a Freedom Fest Meeting at 8am at Old 40 Cafe & Treasures.

I just wanted to let you all know that the Home Expo is tomorrow Saturday, March 2nd from 10am-4pm. It is suppose to be the biggest Home Expo that they have had with more than 40 different groups and companies attending. Admission is free, there will be a concession stand there with all proceeds going to the Post Rock Family Services. So, come on out and enjoy all the different booths. If you stop by our booth I may have a small present for you!! Hope to see you all there!!! Have a great Friday!!!
Hello Everyone!!
I was asked to attend the Kansas Day Home on the Range at the Deines Cultural Center January 29th and 31st!! When I arrived there it was great to see all the young children involved in the activities and excited to learn more about their state!!! The children were able to do some bread making, butter making, camp fire singing, and they also were excited by the appearance of Abraham Lincoln!!! I thought the two days went very well and that the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves!!!

I am here to inform you about the Russell County Youth Health Fair that will be taking place Tuesday, April 30, 2013. It will be held at the Russell County 4-H Building and Russell Recreation Center from 8:00am-8:00pm! The Youth Health Fair is targeting the Russell County youth from pre-school through high school, however, the entire community is also invited to participate!! I just wanted to invite you to join me January 29th and January 31st at the Deines Cultural Center for the Kansas Day Event – “Home on the Range”. The purpose of this is to instill a love and understanding of our Kansas Heritage in our youth!! There will be hands on learning stations for the kids to go to. Some examples, of the the hands on stations include: Yeast Bread Making, Butter Making, Campfire Singing and much more!!! There could also, be appearances by Abraham Lincoln and Will Rogers!! We still have the hard copies of the guide in our office for travelers and any community members. If you would like a guide feel free to let the staff know and they will get them out to you, there is no charge. Feel free to spread the word that Russell County Visitors Guide is now online!!! The staff and I would like to wish everybody a Happy and Safe New Years!! Just a reminder the County offices are closed today and tomorrow (12-31-12 & 1-1-13), County offices will reopen with normal hours. If you plan on drinking please make sure you have a Designated Driver, if you need a ride you can call the police department and an officer will give you a ride home – subject to officer availability and within the city limits only. We will be ringing in the New Year soon, so gather with friends and family to end 2012 and bring in 2013!!! Have a great New Year!!!!
